Does the e-book price include Value-Added Tax (VAT)?

Prices of e-books include Value-Added Tax if purchased and delivered within the borders of the Republic of South Africa.

How do I purchase an e-book?

E-Books are available for purchase from the Juta online catalogue. Click on the E-Book button to filter the available titles. Ensure that the title you purchase is in the correct format before you add the title to your cart, then follow the prompts at the secure checkout to complete your purchase. Juta will email you your access instructions and your unique e-book redemption code. Should you not receive your redemption code following successful payment, please get in touch with Customer Services at +27 21 659 2300 or email: cserv@juta.co.za.

Which methods can I use to pay for e-books?

You have the option to pay via credit card or secure EFT.

Do I have to create a VitalSource Bookshelf account to purchase an e-book?

No, however, you will be required to create a VitalSource Bookshelf account to access your eBook if you do not have one.

Which e-readers can I use to access my e-book?

You can access your e-book in the VitalSource Bookshelf, Snapplify and miEbooks (ITSI) readers across a wide range of platforms and devices, including iOS, Android, Chrome OS, Windows and macOS; on PCs and Macs, tablets, and mobile devices.

Are e-book features supported on all devices?

Yes, however, the functionality of the features might vary depending on the browser or type of device you are using.

Can I access my e-book offline?

Yes. You need internet access to download your e-book. Once your e-book has been downloaded onto your device you can read it anywhere, with or without internet access.

How much data will I need to download my e-book?

On average, an enhanced e-book size is about 2 MB, and an e-book is under 1 MB and won’t use much data during the downloading process. We recommend that if you have a limited data connection, to download your books using Wi-Fi. This is not only faster but will also save your data usage.

Does reading an e-book offline use data?

No. Downloaded e-books use no data as they are read without access to the Internet. Once signed in, download any e-book to your device for offline use.

How long will I have access to my e-book?

You will have ongoing access to the edition of the e-book title that you purchased.

NOTE: VitalSource Bookshelf Online access, using your unique Juta e-book redemption code received after purchasing your e-book, is valid for 365 days after activation. For perpetual access, you will need to download the title/s onto your device/s. A guide to downloading e-books is included in your access instructions issued with your redemption code.

How do I download an ebook to my device/s for offline use?

How do I redeem or activate a VitalSource Bookshelf ebook code and download an ebook that I have already purchased?

You can redeem your 20-digit code directly in Bookshelf or by visiting the VitalSource Redeem portal.

Launch Bookshelf and go to the Account Menu and select Redeem Code. Enter your redemption code and press the Redeem button. Your updated booklist will be downloaded to your computer. Once your e-book has been downloaded, click on "All Titles" in the collection pane and double-click on your e-book to open it.

If you are using an iOS device and have a redemption code, you will need to redeem the code through Bookshelf Online before accessing it in the app. If you do not have Bookshelf for iOS, download the app from the App store either through iTunes or through your iOS Device. Launch the Bookshelf for iOS app and sign in with your Bookshelf account email address and password. Your booklist will download to your iOS device.

If you have the Bookshelf for iOS app already installed, launch the Bookshelf for iOS app on your device and click on the Refresh icon in the upper-left corner of the screen. Sign in with your Bookshelf account email address and password. Your booklist will download to your iOS device. Once the booklist downloads, click on the book to download it to your iOS device.

If your e-book has been downloaded to your computer, you can transfer it to your iOS device through iTunes. Detailed instructions are available here, Once the e-book has transferred to your iOS device, click on it to open it.

How can I read my e-book in Bookshelf Online?

Go to https://login.vitalsource.com
Sign in with your Bookshelf account email address and password.
Click on the name of the title to open the ebook.

NOTE: Online access using the redemption code that Juta provides is valid for 365 days after activation. For perpetual access, refer below to download the title/s onto your device.

How do I access my e-book titles on multiple devices?

Go to http://www.vitalsource.com/download, then download and install Bookshelf for your computer or mobile device. Sign in with your VitalSource email address and password. Your active titles will be visible in your Library.

How many devices can I use?

You can have up to two (2) mobile devices (iOS, Android, Kindle Fire, and Chromebook) and two (2) desktops (Mac and Windows) active at any given time. If you exceed these limits, you will need to deactivate a device to add a new one. You can manage your activations within the Bookshelf app. Visit this Vitalsource page for more information.

When I log into VitalSource Bookshelf on a different device, will all my notes, flashcards and highlights be available?

You can make notes and highlights inside your e-book with VitalSource Bookshelf. When signed into the same VitalSource Bookshelf account, any notes and highlights you have made will sync across any device logged into that account.
