De Heide Special Care Centre supports the developmental needs of profoundly physically and intellectually disabled children and adults with Cerebral Palsy. The centre provides a daily learning programme to 28 children and adults from under-resourced communities across Cape Town.

With education at the heart of Juta’s purpose, the initiative focused on creating practical learning and sensory resources that could support the learners' development and day-to-day educational experience.

From the office to the classroom

The initiative began at Juta’s Cape Town office, where employees came together to create sensory boards and learning resources for the centre.

Jutarians contributed their time to prepare, print, cut, laminate and assemble the resources, with teams working together to turn simple materials into practical stimulation and learning tools.

The following day, employees took the resources to De Heide, where they continued the initiative by creating additional sensory boards and painting one of the centre's classrooms.

What started as an office activity became a hands-on day of giving back, with Juta employees working alongside one another to help transform the space into a brighter and more welcoming learning environment.

More than 67 minutes

Juta's contribution extended beyond volunteering and materials.

As part of the initiative, Juta also made a cash donation of R10,000 to De Heide Special Care Centre, providing additional support to the centre and the important work it does for its learners and their families.

The combination of financial support, donated resources and employee volunteer hours reflects Juta's commitment to making a meaningful contribution to the communities it serves.

Inspiring possibilities together

For Juta, Mandela Day is an opportunity to put the spirit of service into action and demonstrate that meaningful change can start with something as simple as giving your time, skills and resources.

From building sensory boards in the office to picking up paintbrushes at De Heide, Jutarians came together to make a tangible difference.

This Mandela Day, Juta didn't just give 67 minutes. We gave our time, our skills and our support to help inspire possibilities together.
