The Varsity College KZN School of Law held its regional moot court finals on 1 September 2015 on their Durban North Campus. Having progressed through rigorous knock out rounds between the Westville, Pietermaritzburg and Durban North campuses, at the Regional School of Law based at Varsity College Westville Campus, Alyssa Jones beat out the competition to take the top spot at the event.
Both Alyssa and runner up, Sarah Jane Goldman, will team up to represent The Varsity College/University of Free State partnership, together with their Gauteng counterparts Nkatelo Nkosana Maluleke and Joannah K a y i n g o a n d s o o n t o b e d e c i d e d C a p e To w n c o u n t e r p a r t s at the University of Free State First Year Moot Court Competition in October this year.
The event was presided over by esteemed Regional Court Magistrates, Betty Rawheath, Sharon Marks and Vuyokazi Nomcembe. Accordingto MagistrateRawheath,‘every
one of the four finalists did extremely well and no doubt did their mentors and Varsity College proud’.
She went on to state that, ‘ it was indeed a difficult decision to pick one winner but in my respectful view the winner was worthy mainly because her legal arguments were succinct, well-researched and presented with confidence and grace’.
