CONNECTORS
Connectors are fiction and non-fiction books based on the principles of reciprocal teaching. In this approach, learners work in small independent groups to develop comprehension and oral/language skills.
Modelled on the researched and proven Reciprocal Reading approach, explicit scaffolds in each book provide a structure for learners to actively practice and develop their literacy skills and strategies in small peer groups – independent of the teacher.
CONNECTORS WILL BENEFIT LEARNERS BY:
• increasing oral-language development through group discussion and listening to others
• developing comprehension strategies
• increasing vocabulary with high-interest words
• encouraging sharing, participation and cooperation with others
• developing confidence in taking leadership roles
• stimulating an interest in a variety of topics
• practising research skills.
Connectors are designed to facilitate understanding through learner-led discussions in small peer groups – independent of the teacher. To support this, at the beginning of every Connectors title, learners are provided guidelines that explain how to use the four key comprehension strategies as they read and discuss the text together.
