The Act gives effect to constitutional requirements so as to prevent and prohibit unfair discrimination and harassment; to promote equality and eliminate unfair discrimination; to prevent and prohibit hate speech; to provide for matters connected therewith.

The establishment of Equality Courts rules and court proceedings are prescribed in the Act. Court appointments, procedure and related matters are prescribed by regulations and a list of Magistrates’ Courts designated as Equality Courts, the area of jurisdiction and places of sittings have been promulgated.
